Our skin is one of the countless blessings of Allah for humanity. The greatness of the creator is revealed through this gift which covers and protects the whole body. It is the garment which one wears all his life. Allah makes the skin the first defense point for the human body against germs. It is responsible for preserving the temperature of the body and helps us to get to know the surrounding environment as well as feel things and interact with them.
Some people take matters for granted and forget to thank Allah for his gifts. Our duty is to be grateful because this is the means to gain protection from Allah and get more of his bounties. Allah Almighty says:
"If you are grateful, I will give you more"
{Ibrahim, 7}
لئن شكرتم لأزيدنكم
With the aid of the early morning sunlight vitamin"D", which is of great value for the bones especially for children, is formed under the skin, thus saving us from disease. Weather changes might affect the skin and cause some problems that worry many people. Dryness of the skin or its breaking is among those problems. When one gets older such troubles increase because the skin loses the moisture it possesses. Usually the body has the ability to produce special oil called sebum that acts as a protector for the waxy layer of the skin. With elderly people this process is slowed down and the skin is usually dry.
According to researchers, bathing in very hot water should be avoided as well as soaps with strong chemical effect. In Islam cleanliness is something essential. A Muslim is always clean. The prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that cleanliness is part of one's faith.
However, bathing more than necessary especially in winter affects the skin with dryness and makes it flabby gradually. After bathing, one should dry himself properly and put some sort of cream if he suffers from skin dryness. In addition, cotton clothes are better to wear than synthetic ones.
It is religious duty to look after the blessings you are endowed within that case, care and attention are needed to preserve the skin which when unhealthy makes the person miserable. People naturally stay away from anyone whose skin does not look nice. Consequently, he feels offended.
In a number of Ayahs, Allah mentioned the skin as it represents the center of all feelings and. Allah Almighty describes how the disbeliveers are tortured in the hereafter. He says:
إن الذين كفروا بايتنا سوف نصليهم نارا كلما نضجت جلودهم بدلناهم جلوداً غيرها ليذوقوا العذاب إن الله عزيزاً حكيماً
"Those who disbelive in our Messenger We shall make them enter Fire. As often as their skins are burned, We shall change them for other skins, that they may taste the chastisement. Surely Allah is ever Mighty, Wise"{Al Nisa,56}
He also explains how the skin is a witness against the deeds of the person. Allah says:
وقالوا لجلودهم لم شهدتم علينا قالوا أنطقنا الله الذى أنطق كل شىء وهو خلقكم أول مرة وإليه ترجعون
"And they will say to their skins: Why bear you witness against us? They will say: Allah who makes everything speakes has made us speak and He created you at first, and to Him you are returned
